NORTH NEWTON, KS – No. 20-ranked Indian Hills Women's Track & Field took home third place at the Loren Reusser Invitational, hosted by Bethel College of Kansas.  The Warrior women set a handful of school records and several notable performances in addition to taking home bronze in the field of sixteen squads.

"Our women's team had a great showing," said IHCC Head Coach Brent Ewing.  "Placing third at a meet this size is a big accomplishment for our team.  Several of the women are improving drastically. Their performances are encouraging their teammates to follow suit. We have depth this year that we have never had before, especially in the sprints."

Like their counterparts on the men's side, Ewing's women's squad is deep and talented at the 200 meter distance.  That talent was on full display at Thresher Stadium as sophomore Kylar Brown set the IHCC school record with a 24.69, which shattered the 25.18 mark set by freshman Kahliyah Anderson.  Undaunted, Anderson reclaimed her record right back a minute later when the Texas product topped Brown with a 24.62 second effort. The two Warriors finished third and fourth in the event, respectively.  Aimaya Drummond and Dasauna Combs finished seventh and eighth in the 200 as well.

"It used to be a big deal for us to have a girl who ran sub-26 seconds in the 200," Ewing noted.  "Now we have eight girls who have already accomplished that this year and a handful more who are very close. I'm very proud of this group.  Aimaya Drummond continued her tear. Last week she ran her first 400m ever, running the 4th fastest time in IHCC history (58.83). She followed that up with a 25.33 performance in the 200m, a personal best by over a half second."

In addition to Anderson's school record effort in the 200, the freshman sensation also set the IHCC all-time mark in the 100 meters, sprinting to a time of 12.21 second, good enough for third at the event.

"Our female sprinters have really elevated our program this year," Ewing added. "Between the 100, 200 and 400 meter races, they have set 11 top five all-time performances in IHCC history."

Recent Warrior addition Peyton Steva reset the 100 meter hurdles school record she claimed the week prior with a mark of 15.44 seconds, which was good enough for runner-up honors.

"Peyton is showing significant improvement," Ewing said. "Peyton joined us about six weeks ago, so she has been a little behind from a training standpoint. She is starting to gain a lot of confidence and it is showing in her races. The best is yet to come for Peyton."

IHCC jumps specialist Ciara Corley had another solid day taking runner up in the long jump with a leap of 5.09 meters, and set the school record in the triple jump with an effort of 11.12 meters.  Ewing noted that Corley's teammate, Malama Toure broke the 5.00 meter barrier in the long jump for the first time this season, which earned her fourth place.

"I was really happy to see Malama achieve that mark," Ewing added.

The Warrior women punctuated their efforts at the Reusser Invitational with a final performance in the 4x400 relay which set the school record, running 3:54.04.  The foursome of Drummond, Destiny Lottie, Temira Goods and Anderson had already hit the NJCAA qualifying mark during the indoor season.

Indian Hills will be back on the track this weekend in Wichita, Kansas as the Warriors compete in the Wichita State Open on Saturday, April 10 at Cessna Stadium in Wichita, Kansas.
