LEVELLAND, TX – The Indian Hills Women's Track and Field team finished 23rd at the NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships as two relays placed allowing five Warrior competitors to earn All-American status.
The IHCC quartet of Aimaya Drummond, Temira Goods, Destiny Lottie and Kahliyah Anderson finished sixth place in the 4x400 relay on the final day of the Championships, hosted by South Plains College, running a time of 3:51.14. IHCC Head Coach Brent Ewing credited freshman standout Kahliyah Anderson's anchor leg for lifting the Warriors to their finish.
"Kahliyah picked off two runners in the finals to take us from eighth to sixth," Ewing said. "She also closed in 55 seconds in the prelims of the 4x400 to help us secure the school record of 3:50.49, in addition to tying her own school record in the 200 meters."
Ewing was also quick to point out the leadership of sophomore Destiny Lottie for the 4x400's success.
"Destiny also had two of her fastest 4x400 splits this weekend," Ewing said. "Destiny has played a big role in the shaping of our women's program. She's a grind-it-out type of young woman. She listens and most of all, she never gives up when things get tough. She ended her Indian Hills career with arguably her best four meets being her last four meets. I'm very excited to watch her compete next year at Tusculum University."
Indian Hills' 4x100 relay also earned All-American accolades as the Warrior foursome of Janyla Hoskins, Goods, Drummond and Anderson finished in eighth at 47.19.
"Aimaya Drummond was asked to run the 4x100 last minute and she did a fantastic job," Ewing said. "That relay will return all four legs next year. On paper we were ranked 12th coming into the meet. Seeing them go out there, do their job and finish as All-Americans was very cool to watch."
Thrower Lauren Upmeyer finished just outside of All-American status in two events as she finished ninth in the discus and tenth in the javelin. Upmeyer's toss of 41.01 broke the school record in the discus.
"Lauren had a monster performance in the discus," Ewing said. "It never gets old seeing school records getting shattered. Coach Dixon has done a phenomenal job with the women's field events. We're very excited to have her back next year."
"Our women's program has come a long ways. We've never had this many All-Americans at a national meet on our women's side. We had some girls really step up. We have had great sophomore leadership this year from athletes like Kylar Brown. We have a very talented freshman group coming back next year. Of the ten females that competed over the weekend, seven of them will be returning. Our ladies finished the season having broken 14 school records."
