GILMORE NAMED NATIONAL FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR

Centerville, IA – Freshman Genesis Gilmore (Clarksville, TN/Montgomery Central) of the Indian Hills Women's Wrestling team has been named The Open Mat Women's Freshman of the Year. Gilmore captured the 2024 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) 155lb National Championship in March.

In her freshman campaign, Gilmore made an unprecedented run to the NJCAA title in Council Bluffs. Competing as the No. 6 seed, Gilmore tore through the 155lb bracket, pinning the No. 3 and No. 2 seeds in back-to-back bouts before clinching the national title over No. 1 nationally ranked and defending national champion Ferny Hernandez of Iowa Western Community College with a 14-4 VSU1.

Gilmore, a Tennessee High School state champion, became the Warriors' first-ever 155lb national champion in school history as the team went on to win its fourth consecutive national championship, and second straight at the NJCAA level.

On the year, Gilmore posted a 19-3 overall record, including multiple victories over returning All-Americans and nationally ranked opponents. Gilmore tallied seven falls on the year on her way to the national title.

The freshman was also named the Indian Hills Community College Hy-Vee March Female Student-Athlete of the month. READ MORE
