SEPTEMBER HY-VEE STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE MONTH

Ottumwa, IA – The Indian Hills Athletic Department has announced its Indian Hills Community College Hy-Vee Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of September. This month's recipients are Kinga Michalska (Szówsko, Poland/ZSSCHiO) of the Indian Hills Volleyball team and Brandon Ford (Perth, West Australia/Duncraig) of the Indian Hills Men's Cross Country team.

Michalska made headlines throughout the month of September, leading the Warriors, ranked No. 14 in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Volleyball rankings, to a 12-1 record while currently riding a nine-match win streak. The sophomore outside hitter recently joined the exclusive 700-kill club, becoming the first member of the Indian Hills Volleyball program to reach that milestone for their career since the 2018 season.

Michalska totaled 182 kills through 13 matches in September, an average of 14.0 kills/match. The sophomore has posted double-digit kill totals in each of the team's last nine contests. On September 9 vs. Snow College (UT), Michalska tallied a career-high 25 kills to lead the Warriors to a 3-1 victory.

Michalska was tapped as the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Volleyball Athlete of the Week on September 12.

In his first month of collegiate competition, Ford has re-wrote the record books at Indian Hills. The freshman has shattered both the 8k and 6k school records, setting the new standards in each of the team's first two meets of the year.

At the Hawkeye Invitational on September 1, Ford placed ninth overall with a 6k school record time of 18:25.90, breaking the previous school record mark by 69 seconds. Ford followed up at the Bradley Intercollegiate on September 15 with a second-place finish and a new school record time of 24:07.30, eclipsing the previous mark by 15 seconds. Ford closed out the month at the Dan Huston Invitational with a seventh-place finish, and the top junior college runner at the event for the No. 7 nationally ranked Warriors.

Ford has twice been named the ICCAC DI Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week in the month of September.
