The Indian Hills Athletic Department has announced the hiring of Laura Goehring to serve as the department’s Head Athletic Trainer. Goehring takes over the Indian Hills Athletic Training department after nine years as the Assistant Athletic Trainer.

Goehring will take over a department that provides care and service to 19 athletic programs at Indian Hills Community College between the Ottumwa and Centerville campuses. Goehring will lead a full-time staff of three Assistant Athletic Trainers at Indian Hills.

“As someone who has been an integral part of the Indian Hills family for many years, Laura brings unmatched dedication, experience, and care to our athletic programs,” stated Kelsi Weeks, Indian Hills Athletic Director. “Promoting her to Head Athletic Trainer was a natural next step, and we couldn't be more excited to see her take on this new role. Her deep understanding of our student-athletes and unwavering commitment to their well-being make her an invaluable leader for our department.”

Goehring brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the position. Along with 10 years at Indian Hills, Goehring previously served as a Certified Athletic Trainer/Work Steps Technician with Integrated Therapy Specialists, PC. During her tenure at Indian Hills, Goehring has served numerous athletic programs, providing daily practice and home event coverage along with return-to-play guidance. Goehring has helped implement a new Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system along with streamlining daily scheduling procedures and policies, along with facilitating monthly drug testing protocols.

“I’m excited to take on this new role and keep providing top quality care for our student-athletes,” stated Goehring.

Goehring has received multiple professional certifications throughout her career in the Athletic Training field. Goehring has earned the Iowa Board of Athletic Trainers’ Licensure, the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Board of Certification, Dry Needling Level 1 and Level 2, and Blood Flow Restriction certification. Goehring is certified by the American Red Cross in First Aid/CPR/AED and has served as a member of NATA, the Iowa Athletic Trainers’ Society, and the Mid-American Athletic Trainers’ Association.

A former college student-athlete, Goehring was a member of the Upper Iowa University and Muscatine Community College softball teams, competing for four seasons between the two programs.

Goehring received a Master of Science degree in Occupational Safety and Health Administration from Columbia State Southern University as well as a Bachelors of Science degree in Athletic Training, along with a minor in psychology from Upper Iowa University. Goehring also received an Associate of Arts degree from Muscatine Community College.
