Falcons Open With Split

IH vs. EOS

Wilburton, Oklahoma -- Indian Hills slugged five home runs, three by sophomore Justin King, and they divided a pair of games with Eastern Oklahoma State in IHCC's season-opening action on Friday.

King and Christian Pena both went deep in a 7-6 first game win.  Despite a pair of roundtrippers from King and one by Will Zimmerman, IHCC came up short in the nightcap, losing 8-7.

After Eastern Oklahoma scored a first-inning run off Indian Hills starter Tanner Halverson in game one, each team erupted for four runs in the second.  The Falcons trailed 6-4 after three innings, but came back with three runs in the fourth and the relief efforts of Caleb Miley and Zachary Fascia made those runs stand up.  Miley fired four innings of four-hit, shutout relief and picked up the win and Fascia pitched a scoreless 7th for the save.  Hunter Capps had a single and a triple and knocked in four of the IHCC runs.  Ryan Humeniuk drove in a run and the homers by King and Pena were both solo shots.  Colin Potrzeba stroked a pair of singles and scored twice.

King's two-homer second game came in addition to a double.  He was 4-for-4 with three runs scored and three driven in.  Zimmerman's shot was a two-run blast.  Pena and Jake Kristensen had RBIs.  The Falcons used three pitchers.  Starter Enmanuel Castillo was charged with all eight runs.  Yasiel Valdez threw two scoreless innings and Tristan Ledger one.

The Falcons had their Saturday date with Eastern Oklahoma cancelled.  They will return to action in a four-game series at Garden City (Kans.) Feb. 23-24.
