Humeniuk Hammers Colby in Series Win

Colby, Kansas -- Sophomore outfielder Ryan Humeniuk would probably love it if Indian Hills took another trip to play Colby CC in the near future.  The lefty-hitting Humeniuk blasted five home runs and knocked in 13 runs as the Falcons won three of four games in the series with the Trojans.  His offensive explosion included a pair of two-homer games along with four more hits, increasing his team-leading numbers for the season to seven round-trippers and 32 RBIs.

Bouyed by Humeniuk's exploits, Indian Hills swept Friday's doubleheader by scores of 14-9 and 7-6, then took the opening game on Saturday, 10-7, before seeing Colby avoid a sweep by claiming a 3-2 win in game two.

Humeniuk's first homer, a grand slam, was part of a six-run second inning in the first game of the series.  After Colby put together a four-run 4th inning, Humeniuk swatted a three-run drive in the 5th and IHCC added three runs in the 7th.  Declan Buckle chipped in a two-run homer and knocked in four runs for the winners while Justin King was 3-for-4.  Brett Kauzlarich, in three innings of relief work, gave up three earned runs and struck out a pair to gain his first college win.

Indian Hills built a 7-0 lead in the second game, one of the runs courtesy of a Humeniuk sols shot, then had to hang on as the hosts got three runs in the 5th and three more in the 7th.  Zachary Fascia came on in relief of starter DJ Depiero to get the final out, a strikeout with the tying run at second base.  Seven different players scored a run for the Falcons.  Jameson Hart homered with a teammate on base and Will Zimmerman drove in a pair.

In game one on Saturday, Humeniuk was at it again with two long balls and five RBIs.  Fascia helped out with a two-run home run and King doubled twice.  IHCC used four pitchers.  Corey Jackson won the game in relief, pitching two scoreless innings.  Jordan Bahnuk notched his first save by getting the final out.

Each team scored twice in the 1st inning of the series' final game, and things were scoreless after that until a solo homer off the Falcons' Oracio Deleon proved to be the game-winner.  Tanner Halverson started for IHCC and struck out five in three innings.  The home run was the lone hit off Deleon.  Humeniuk's homer streak came to end, but he did have a single and a double and scored one of the Indian Hills runs.  Zimmerman scored the other one and King and Hart had the two runs-batted-in.

Indian Hills returned home with a 13-7 record and is slated to take on Southeastern CC on Tuesday at Pat Daugherty Field.
