Centerville -- Sophomore Garrett Takamatsu was selected to the first team and six of his teammates were also honored on the All-Region XI baseball teams announced Monday.  Joining Takamatsu as All-Region picks were freshman pitcher Wyatt Wendell and two sophomores -- outfielder Jay Hester and DH Soren Graversen -- on the second team, and pitcher Nick Marshall and infielders Jet Weber and Nathan Chasey, both honorable mention selections.  Marshall and Chasey are freshmen and Weber is a sophomore.

Takamatsu led the Falcons in batting average with his .353 mark and also topped the team in doubles (13), homers (10), RBIs (46), total bases (94), slugging percentage (.676), and hit by pitches (12). 

Wendell got stronger as the season went along, winning six-of-seven decisions against conference foes, including a victory against Marshalltown in the region tourney.  He finished the year with a 7-4 record and 2.85 ERA.  Wendell led the mound staff in ERA, wins, games started (11), innings pitched (63 1/3), and strikeouts (56).

Hester was an all-region pick for the second year in a row.  As a soph, he batted .277 with 26 hits, 19 runs and 15 RBIs.

Graversen batted .292 in 37 games and had one of the most memorable moments of the 2019 season -- a walk-off grand slam to beat Southwestern in a league game.  That was one of six HRs for the lefty-hitting Graversen who knocked in 30 runs, scored 19 and led the team in walks with 28.

Marshall was second on the pitching staff in ERA with a 3.40 mark and had a 3-1 record while appearing in 20 games overall, 18 of them in relief.  He got a save in the region victory won by Wendell.  Marshall allowed only 27 hits in his 37 1/3 innings.

Weber started all 51 Falcons' games this spring, hitting .309.  A two-year regular, he was an honorable mention all-region performer for the second year in a row.  This year, he led Indian Hills in at-bats (175), runs scored (44) and hits (54).  He also had 29 RBIs.

Chasey split his freshman campaign between the field and the mound, appearing in eight games as a pitcher, going 2-0 with a 3.59 ERA in that role.  At the plate, he batted .281 with 27 hits, a homer and 14 RBIs.
