WARRIORS SET FOR HOME OPENER TUESDAY

Centerville, IA – Indian Hills Baseball is set for its 2022 home opener on Wednesday as the Warriors host St. Cloud Technical & Community College for a three-game series. The two sides will play a single nine-inning game on Tuesday followed by a doubleheader on Wednesday at Pat Daugherty Field.

LEADING OFF

The Warriors return to Centerville after a nine-game road trip through the southern half of the United States to open their season. Indian Hills went 5-4 on its trip that spanned Kansas, Missouri, and Louisiana, including a pair of wins over No. 6 nationally ranked Cowley College (KS) and a win over No. 9 Crowder College.

The Warriors also picked up two wins over Baton Rouge Community College (LA).

WARRIORS AT HOME

Pat Daugherty Field will play host to Indian Hills' home opener for the 56th time in the last 57 years, excluding the COVID-cancelled season of 2020.

  • The Warriors have won seven consecutive home openers dating back to 2014.
  • The 2021 program went 20-3 overall at home.
  • The NJCAA Region XI Tournament will be held at Pat Daugherty Field this year, set for May 12-14.

SIZING UP THE CYCLONES

  • St. Cloud Tech enters the mid-week series with a 3-1 record on the year after taking three of four from ICCAC member Southwestern Community College.
  • The Cyclones outscored the Spartans 37-15 over the course of the four-game set.
  • Through four games, the Cyclones are hitting .304 on the year as a team.
  • St. Cloud Tech has made one other appearance at Pat Daugherty Field as the Cyclones dealt the Warriors a 5-4 loss on March 21, 2015.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

  • Freshman Daniel Figueroa has sparked the Warrior offense early on this year as the speedy outfielder boasts a team-leading .387 batting average to go along with a team-high eight stolen bases in nine games.
  • Gerardo Villarreal has put together three multi-hit games thus far in 2022 and is currently batting .357 entering the series with the Cyclones.
  • Greg Campos is coming off his first win of the year on the mound after tossing five scoreless innings with just two hits allowed against Baton Rouge.
  • St. Cloud's Jackson Peter has gotten off to a strong start for the Cyclones, going 6-10 with two home runs and seven RBI in the team's first four games.

The home action continues this week for the Warriors as Indian Hills is tentatively set to host Ellsworth Community College for a single game at 2:00 PM on Friday and Southwestern for a single contest at 1:00 PM on Saturday.
