WARRIORS TOP SOUTHEASTERN 8-7 AT HOME

Centerville, IA – Indian Hills Baseball got back on track with an 8-7 victory over Southeastern Community College at Pat Daugherty Field on Wednesday. The Warriors improve to 19-6 overall and 9-1 in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play.

After a loss on Monday snapped the Warriors' 11-game win streak, Indian Hills got back into the win column with its ninth conference win of the year, tied for the most in the ICCAC with Iowa Western Community College. The win also moved the Warriors to 11-2 overall at home this season and completed the three-game conference sweep of the Blackhawks.

One week after sweeping Southeastern in a road doubleheader, the two teams returned to action in Centerville for a single nine-inning conference matchup. The Blackhawks struck first with a run in the top of the first, but the Warriors responded immediately in the bottom half. Indian Hills plated three runs in the frame thanks to a bases loaded double from this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week Thomas Emerich (Ava, MO/Ava).

Starting pitcher Jurgen Zwitzer (Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht, Netherlands/Thorbecke Voortgezet Onderwijs) kept the Blackhawks scoreless over the next three frames before eventually tying the game in the fifth. Deadlocked at three, the Warriors once again answered with a big inning, scoring five runs in the bottom of the fifth. A two-run double from Tucker Ebest (Austin, TX/Lasa) broke open the game before James Dutton (Toronto, ON/Forest Hill Collegiate Institute) delivered an RBI single and Emerich added his fourth RBI of the night to take an 8-3 lead for the home team.

Southeastern clawed back with a pair of runs in both the sixth and seventh, but the Warrior bullpen effectively limited the Blackhawks' rally. Gavin Hinckley (West Bend, WI/West Bend West) tossed a scoreless ninth to earn his first save of the season.

Freshman Daniel Figueroa (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico/Leadership Christian Academy) and Ricardo Van Grieken (Merida, Venezuela/San Luis) both went 2-3 at the top of the lineup for the Warriors. Figueroa has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 contests while Van Grieken is currently on a six-game hit streak.

Zwitzer allowed just one earned run in four innings. Dade Hensley (Mason, OH/Mason) picked up the win in relief, tossing a scoreless inning with two strikeouts.

The Warriors are set to host Ellsworth Community College for a three-game series at Pat Daugherty Field this weekend. Saturday will pit a doubleheader at 1:00 PM followed by a single contest on Sunday. Fans can catch all of the action via GoHillsTV.
