Centerville, IA – The Indian Hills Baseball team is set to host a three-game Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) series with Kirkwood Community College as part of Parent's Weekend at Pat Daugherty Field.

LEADING OFF

Indian Hills looks to get back on track after falling twice to No. 8 nationally ranked Iowa Western in ICCAC play on Wednesday night. The Warriors enter the weekend series with Kirkwood having won six of its last 10 and are 8-6 overall on the road this year. On the year, the Warriors are 21-9 overall and 11-4 in the ICCAC, good enough for third place currently.

The Eagles make the trek to Pat Daugherty Field with a 24-10 record on the year and 8-6 in the ICCAC. Kirkwood sports an 8-2 record on the road and are on a four-game winning streak following home doubleheader sweeps of Northeast and Ellsworth.

The two teams last squared off April 17-18 of last year in Cedar Rapids, IA. The Eagles took three of four games, with the Warriors winning game two 9-4.

AT THE PLATE

The Warrior offense enters the weekend with an even .300 batting average on the year. Eight Warriors are hitting .300 or better, led by Daniel Figueroa's team-leading .391 mark and James Dutton's .390 clip.

Ricardo Van Grieken, this week's ICCAC Athlete of the Week checks in with a team-high 32 RBI and a .311 batting average.

ON THE MOUND

The Warrior staff enters the weekend with the reigning ICCAC Pitcher of the Week in Douglas Rojas who pitched 10 shutout innings last week. Rojas currently leads the staff with 49 strikeouts on the year and holds a 2-1 record with a 2.08 earned run average.

The bullpen has featured a number of solid arms, including Jack Payne and his 5-1 record and team-best 0.52 earned run average. The hard-throwing righthander has not allowed a run since March 12, a span of five appearances and 11.2 innings.

TRACKING VAN GRIEKEN

The Warriors' star shortstop Ricardo Van Grieken is nearing a career milestone for the Warriors that is within reach this weekend. The first-team All-Region pick from a year ago is five hits away from 100 for his career and currently sports a lifetime .324 batting average in 92 games as a Warrior.

Van Grieken is also the reigning ICCAC DI Baseball Player of the Week, the second time the Venezuela native has earned the honor in his career.

SCOUTING KIRKWOOD

Kirkwood heads into the weekend with an offense that has hit 50 home runs on the year, the fourth most at the NJCAA DII level. The Eagles are powered by Chase Moseley who leads the team with 10 home runs and a .490 average on the year. Eight different Eagles have connected on at least three home runs this season.

On the mound, the Eagles has tossed six shutouts on the year which ranks third nationally. Tucker Christensen holds a 3-0 record with a 1.59 earned run average while Jake Matthaidess holds a 4-1 record and a 1.78 earned run average.

PARENT'S WEEKEND / SOPHOMORE DAY

The annual Parent's Weekend at Pat Daugherty Field will be held this weekend. As part of the festivities, there will be a cookout prior to Saturday's game along with merchandise for sale from the Indian Hills bookstore.

Prior to the start of Saturday's game, 17 members of the baseball program will be recognized as they prepare to head off to four-year universities next year.

This year's class includes Thomas Emerich, Arturo Rodriguez, Ryoya Yamashita, Ricardo Van Grieken, Douglas Rojas, Andrew Beissner, Dade Hensley, Gavin Hinckley, Gerardo Villarreal, Jurgen Zwitzer, Sleiter Suriel, Diego Aragon, Jack Payne, Tucker Ebest, Nick Hays, Gercal Reyes Alvardo, and Noah Butler.
