WARRIORS SPLIT ICCAC SERIES AT DMACC

Boone, IA – The Indian Hills Baseball team earned an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) split at Des Moines Area Community College on Sunday afternoon, dropping game one 3-2 on a walk-off before taking the nightcap 6-5.

One day after falling to the Bears at Pat Daugherty Field on a walk-off hit in extra innings, the two teams squared off in Boone for a conference doubleheader. The two teams traded runs in the second as the Warriors took the initial lead after Jackson Romero (Fort Collins, CO/Resurrection Christian) tripled and scored for the game's first run.

The Bears took the lead with a run in the third before Tucker Ebest (Austin, TX/Lasa) homered for the third time in four games with a solo shot in the fifth to tie the game at two. Starting pitcher Jack Nelson (Zionsville, IN/Zionsville Community) kept the Bears off the board before handing the ball of to Sam Hart (Highlands Ranch, CO/ThunderRidge) who helped the Warriors force extra innings with a scoreless sixth and seventh.

The Warriors, who managed just four hits on the day, failed to capitalize on a leadoff walk in the eighth as DMACC plated a run in the bottom half for the game-winning run.

The Warriors fell behind 2-0 in the first inning of game two and failed to record a hit until the third inning. The Warriors cut the deficit in half on a bases loaded walk. The Warrior offense continued to stall, going scoreless until the seventh inning.

The offense finally came alive in the seventh inning, scoring two runs by way of a hit by pitch and a wild pitch before Gerardo Villarreal (Laredo, TX/United South) delivered a three-run home run to left center for a 6-4 Warrior lead.

The Bears plated a run in the bottom of the seventh, but Gavin Hinckley (West Bend, WI/West Bend West) preserved the win with his second save of the year.

Lukas Broske (West Bend, WI/West Bend WI) pitched 5.1 innings of relief, allowing just two earned runs while striking out three to earn the win, his second of the year. Villarreal finished the game 2-3 with the three RBI. Daniel Figueroa (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico/Leadership Christian Academy) went 1-3 with a run and has now reached base safely in eight consecutive games.

The Warriors travel to Iowa Central Community College for a single game on May 4, set for a 3:00 PM first pitch in Fort Dodge, IA.
