WARRIORS ROUT LAKERS FOR SERIES SWEEP

Centerville, IA – The Indian Hills Baseball team rolled to a pair of run-rule victories on Sunday afternoon at Pat Daugherty Field. The Warriors toppled Iowa Lakes Community College 21-2 and 23-4 to complete the four-game weekend sweep.

The Warriors produced season-high run totals in back-to-back games after routing the Lakes for the fourth time in two days. Indian Hills pounded out 15 hits in each contest. With the two wins the Warriors move to 15-8 overall on the year and 7-3 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

The Warriors used a six-run first-inning to pull away from the Lakers in the opener. The Warriors tacked on three more in the third before erupting for 12 runs in the fourth inning. Nine different Warriors collected a hit in the win, including three apiece from Daniel Figueroa (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico/Leadership Christian Academy) and three more from Ciro Benavides (Laredo, TX/Alexander). Miguel Salazar (Sentaines, Venezuela/San Luis) and Diamonds Cooper (Kansas City, MO/North Kansas City) tallied a pair of knocks each.

Cooper and fellow freshman Logan Myers (Andover, MN/Andover) each recorded their first-career home runs as a member of the Warrior program.

On the mound, freshman Jason Schaaf (Las Vegas, NV/Palo Verde) worked four innings in the start to earn the win. Schaaf limited the Lakers to just two hits while stirking out three. Carlos Valenzuela (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Global Life Vision) and Sam Hart (Highlands Ranch, CO/ThunderRidge) each worked scoreless relief appearances.

In the series finale, the Warriors broke things open from the first pitch as Indian Hills produced 10 runs in the first frame before building a 14-0 edge after two. The Warriors tacked on six more in the third and closed out the scoring with three runs in the fourth.

Indian Hills saw another all-around performance at the plate as 10 individuals tallied a hit. Freshman Jesus Rodriguez (Dominican Republic/Life Prep Academy) recorded his first-career three-hit affair while driving in three runs while scoring twice more. Figueroa added two more hits, both run-scoring triples, and three RBI. Raul Torres (Caguas, PR/Leadership Christian Academy) closed out a strong weekend with a pair of hits, three RBI, and three runs scored.

Salazar and Parker Bulthuis (Utrecht, Netherlands/Rocmn) both connected on early home runs for the Warriors, the first-career longball for Bulthuis and second of the year for Salazar.

Freshman Andrei Gordeev (Balashika, Russia/Global Vision Christian) recorded two scoreless innings in his first career start on the mound. Sebastian Khan (Brampton, Ontario/David Zuzuki) earned his first-career win with a scoreless third inning.

The Warriors return to action Thursday for a doubleheader at Kirkwood Community College. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
