Centerville, IA – Sophomore Jack Nelson (Zionsville, IN/Zionsville Community) has been named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Men's Baseball Pitcher of the Week after a dominant performance on the mound for the Indian Hills Baseball squad

Nelson carved up the Iowa Lakes Community College Lakers on Saturday with a career-high 14 strikeouts in an 11-0 shutout victory. Nelson allowed a one-out single in the top of the first inning before retiring the next 14 batters to close out the game, including eight consecutive strikeouts. The southpaw produced seven swinging strikeouts and seven looking strikeouts.

In the five-inning affair, Nelson needed just 67 pitches to spin the gem with 52 of those going for strikes.

The sophomore has now produced back-to-back scoreless appearances to run his scoreless streak to 11 innings. Nelson lowered his season earned run average to 2.88. Nelson owns a 3-2 record in 25 innings this year with 34 total strikeouts.

Along with his national honor, Nelson was also tapped as this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Pitcher of the Week along with teammate Daniel Figueroa who was named the iCCAC Player of the Week.
