LEADING OFF

Fresh off a conference sweep of Marshalltown Community College on Wednesday, the Warriors (21-9, 12-4) hit the road to take on the Northeast Hawks (26-10, 10-4) at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Norfolk, NE

DIAMOND NOTES

  • Winners of four in a row and 10 of its last 11 matchups, the Warriors enter the weekend series atop the ICCAC standings. Indian Hills has won eight of its last nine conference matchups to take a half game lead over Iowa Western and Southeastern.
  • During its last 11 outings, the Warriors have outscored its opponents 142-64, an average of 7.1 runs per game.
  • Indian Hills enters the weekend with a .235 batting average against from the pitching staff, the 16th best mark in the nation. The Warriors lead the ICCAC with 257 strikeouts on the year along with a 10.42 K/9 rate.

Sophomore Daniel Figueroa continues to climb in the Indian Hills record books in a number of statistical categories.

  • Figueroa is one hit shy of 100 career hits after collecting three knocks on Wednesday.
  • Figueroa is just six runs shy of 100 career runs and has scored a run in a remarkable 11 consecutive games, averaging 1.7 runs per game during the stretch.
  • Figueroa is set to become just the fourth Warrior in the last 10 seasons to join the exclusive 100-hit, 100-run club, joining former teammate Ricardo Van Grieken (2020-22), Ryan Humeniuk (2017-18) and Luis Gimenez (2016-17).
  • Figueroa, who owns the school record for most stolen bases (since 1994) with 69, ranks 22nd in the nation this year with 26 swipes.

J-ROD'S ROLLIN'

Freshman Jesus Rodriguez has served as the Warriors' hottest hitter at the plate as of late after a dominant performance on Wednesday.

  • Rodriguez is batting .611 (11-18) during a current five-game hitting streak with nine runs scored and 12 RBI.
  • The freshman went 4-4 with a triple and a three-run home run along with a career-high seven RBI in Wednesday's game two win over Marshalltown.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

The Warriors swept the weekly ICCAC Pitcher and Player of the Week awards.

  • Sam Hart was named the ICCAC Pitcher of the Week after leading the Warriors with three saves in three scoreless opportunities. Hart currently ranks third in the nation with eight saves on the year and has not allowed a run in 10 of his 11 appearances this season.
  • Logan Myers earned ICCAC Player of the Week honors after powering the Warrior offense. Myers is currently riding an eight-game hitting streak with at least one RBI in seven of those contests.

LAST TIME OUT

In a three-game set in Norfolk last year, the Warriors took two out of three, outscoring the Hawks 25-14. Indian Hills took the opener 14-2 and game two 7-5 before falling in the finale 7-4. Daniel Figueroa collected six hits and three stolen bases in the series while Jack Nelson produced a solid outing in the game two win.

SERIES HISTORY

The two teams have played just seven times with all seven games coming in the last two seasons. The Warriors own a 5-2 record vs. the Hawks who started their baseball program in the 2018 season.

SCOUTING THE HAWKS

A perennial contender in the NJCAA Division II ranks, Northeast has become a consistent power in the ICCAC year in and year out. In the team's last three complete seasons, the Hawks are averaging 37.7 wins per year and most recently made the World Series in 2019.

  • Northeast ranks 15th among all DII programs in the nation with 324 runs scored this year.
  • The Hawks rank in the top-20 nationally in hits, doubles, triples, RBI, extra base hits, and batting average.
  • Sophomore Kaden Young leads the offense with a team-high .410 batting average and 35 RBI.
  • 11 different Hawks are batting over .300 on the year.
  • Gage Ingram sports a team-low 1.18 earned run average with a 5-0 record and one save this season for the Hawks.
  • Nate Zyzda owns a 5-1 record on the mound with a team-high 46 strikeouts.
