NELSON, RODRIGUEZ SWEEP ICCAC HONORS

Centerville, IA – The Indian Hills Baseball team once again swept the Iowa Community College Athletic Confernece (ICCAC) weekly awards as the Warriors earned both the ICCAC Pitcher and Player of the Week honors.

Sophomore Jack Nelson (Zionsville, IN/Zionsville Community) and Jesus Rodriguez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Life Prep Academy) garnered the weekly accolades from the conference office for their play on the field. Nelson has now earned the ICCAC Pitcher of the Week award five times this seasons and six times throughout his career while Rodriguez earns his first weekly honor. The Warriors have now swept the weekly honors four times this year.

Nelson was once again dominant on the mound, winning his fourth consecutive start to earn his fourth weekly honor in the last five weeks. Nelson struck out 10 batters in an 8-2 conference win over Southwestern Community College. Nelson tossed six innings while scattering four hits. Nelson, who now owns a 6-2 record with a 2.93 earned run average, has struck out 45 batters in his last four outings.

On the year, opponents are batting just .185 against Nelson while the sophomore is averaging 13.6 strikeouts/9. Nelson has also allowed just six walks on the year compared to 65 strikeouts on the mound.

Offensively, Rodriguez has come on strong for the Warriors. The freshman is currently riding an 11-game hitting streak after going 9-19 (.474) at the dish last week. Rodriguez collected three extra base hits, including a home run, and eight RBI to go along with eight runs scored.  

On the year, Rodriguez is batting .523 (23-44) with 21 RBI and 20 runs scored.

Indian Hills is back in action Wednesday afternoon as the Warriors travel to Marshalltown Community College.
