WARRIORS DROP TWO ON THE ROAD

Mason City, IA – Indian Hills Baseball suffered a pair of setbacks Wednesday afternoon against North Iowa Area Community College. The Warriors fell in game one 12-2 and dropped game two 9-1 at Roosevelt Field.

The Warriors were outhit 20-13 in the two-game Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) series as sophomore Adrian Vargas (Caracas, Venezuela/Instituto Central de Educacion Ice) led the attack with a pair of two-hit performances. The Trojans used the longball to knock off the Warriors, hitting seven home runs between the two contests to sweep the league twinbill.

Indian Hills fell behind early in the opener vs. NIACC as the Trojans put two runs on the board in the first inning following a run in the second before erupting for nine runs in the third. Raul Torres (Caguas, PR/Leadership Christian Academy) scored the Warriors' first run in the top of the third and Daniel Figueroa (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico/Leadership Christian Academy) added an RBI single in the fourth, but the Warriors failed to produce another run the rest of the way.

NIACC used another fast start in game two to pull away early from the Warriors. The Trojans scored four runs in the second and led 5-0 through three frames. Indian Hills' lone run came in the fourth on an RBI from Merrick Mathews (Centerville, IA/Centerville) to score Dylan Sayles (Rockton, IL/Hononegah).

Vargas finished with his second two-hit game of the afternoon including a double. A trio of relievers combined to keep the Trojans scoreless for the final 4.2 innings as Carlos Valenzuela (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Global Life Vision), Nathan Smithburg (Fairfield, IA/Fairfield), and Sam Hart (Highlands Ranch, CO/ThunderRidge) combined for just one hit allowed.

Indian Hills is back in action this weekend for a three-game ICCAC series at Southeastern Community College. Action gets underway at 3:00 PM on Friday.
