VARGAS, HART LAND ICCAC HONORS

Centerville, IA – After guiding the Indian Hills Baseball team to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Baseball Region 11 Championship, sophomores Adrian Vargas (Caracas, Venezuela/Instituto Central de Educacion Ice) and Sam Hart (Highlands Ranch, CO/ThunderRidge) have been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC)

Vargas earned the ICCAC DI Baseball Player of the Week after powering the Indian Hills offense to the three-game tournament sweep while Hart closed out each of the three contests to lead the Warriors to their second region title in three seasons. Indian Hills advanced to the NJCAA DI Baseball Midwest District Tournament which gets underway Wednesday afternoon.

Vargas, the team's leading hitter on the year, continued his torrid pace down the stretch by going 8-13 (.615) at the plate during the region tournament. The sophomore collected four extra base hits, including a pair in a 5-4 opening round win vs. Southwestern Community College. Vargas added four RBI and a pair of runs scored.

In the championship game vs. top-seeded and No. 20 nationally ranked Iowa Western Community College, Vargas provided the go-ahead RBI in the top of the 10th inning to spark the Warriors to victory.

Hart was electric out of the bullpen for the Warriors, clinching a save in each of the three contests to push the Warriors to the District tournament. Hart retired all three batters he faced in the opening round and faced the minimum in game two after inducing a game-ending double play. Hart left a pair of runners stranded to close out the championship game with a strikeout.

The sophomore now ranks second in the nation with 12 saves on the year.

Indian Hills will take on South Suburban College at 3:00 PM Wednesday in the opening round of the NJCAA Midwest District Tournament at Pat Daugherty Field.
