WARRIORS DROP FLAG CITY CLASSIC FINALE

Millington, TN – The Indian Hills Baseball team suffered an 11-4 loss to Lincoln Land Community College (IL) in its final game at the Flag City Classic on Sunday. The Warriors finished its season-opening weekend with a 2-2 record.

Sophomore Daniel Figueroa (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico/Leadership Christian Academy) produced a 4-5 effort at the plate with a home run. Fellow sophomore Merrick Mathews (Centerville, IA/Centerville) tallied a home run and two RBI in the loss. Seven different pitchers saw action on the mound, including Andrei Gordeev (Balashika, Russia/Global Vision Christian) who tossed three scoreless innings and Tomoki Jitsukawa (Tokyo, Japan/Tokai Sapporo) who added a scoreless eighth.

The Warriors fell behind 2-0 in the opening inning before Ciro Benavides (Laredo, TX/Alexander) scored on an error in the second to cut the deficit in half. The Loggers broke things open in the bottom half with six runs to pull away.

Figueroa and Mathews each connected on a solo home run in the seventh inning for the Warriors, the first of season for both.

The Warriors return to Millington, TN for the Babe Howard JUCO Classic on February 24 for four games.
