GORDEEV, TORRES SWEEP WEEKLY ICCAC AWARDS

Centerville, IA – Sophomores Andrei Gordeev (Balashika, Russia/Global Vision Christian) and Raul Torres (Caguas, PR/Leadership Christian Academy) of the Indian Hills Baseball team have swept the weekly Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week awards, announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.

The duo helped lead the Warriors to a 4-0 start to the year at the Flag City Classic in Millington, TN over the weekend. Gordeev produced a masterful performance on the mound to earn ICCAC Pitcher of the Week honors while Torres was named the ICCAC Offensive Player of the Week after guiding the offense.

Gordeev, who went 3-1 on the mound for the Warriors as a freshman last year, opened up the 2024 campaign in impressive fashion. The right-handed hurler worked 6.0 innings on the mound to lead Indian Hills to a 5-1 win vs. Lincoln Land Community College (IL) on Saturday. Gordeev allowed just one earned run while striking out a career-high nine batters to land the weekly ICCAC honor.

Torres guided the Warrior offense throughout the weekend with a team-high .571 batting average. The sophomore infielder opened up the season with a pinch hit triple in the top of the seventh to break a 7-7 tie with John Wood Community College as the Warriors went on to win 9-7.

Torres followed up on Saturday afternoon going 3-6 at the plate with four runs scored and a pair of RBI for the Warriors. Torres went 2-2 with a pair of walks and two runs scored in the win over Lincoln Land to aid Gordeev's efforts.

The Warriors return to action on Saturday with another trip to Millington, TN for the Babe Howard Classic at USA Baseball Stadium.
