LEADING OFF

The Warriors will make a trip to Arkansas City, KS for the fourth consecutive year to take on the Cowley College Tigers at the Cowley Baseball facility for a four-game set.

  • Indian Hills heads to Cowley with a 3-3 overall record on the year after going 2-2 at the Flag City Classic in Millington, TN.
  • The Warriors boast one of the top pitching staffs in the nation through six games this year. Indian Hills currently ranks 10th in the nation in earned run average (2.92), seventh nationally with a 0.97 WHIP, and 15th in the NJCAA with a .224 opponents' batting average.
  • Sophomore Cale Clark leads the offense with a team-high .400 batting average and eight RBI through six games while Boris Rodriguez (.357) and Eduardo Espinoza (.350) have gotten off to strong starts at the plate in their freshman campaigns.

HUEBNER EARNS WEEKLY HONOR

Sophomore Cole Huebner was tapped as this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Baseball Pitcher of the Week after a stellar performance against North Central Missouri College on Sunday.

Taking on the Pirates in Millington, TN at the Flag City Classic, Huebner twirled five shutout innings while striking out three batters. Huebner allowed just two base hits and one walk to earn his first victory of the year. Huebner, who has now collected three ICCAC Athlete of the Week honors throughout his career, has now posted three career outings with at least five innings and zero runs allowed.

SERIES HISTORY

The two storied JUCO programs are set to square off for the fourth consecutive season in Kansas. Indian Hills is 5-7 against Cowley since the 2022 campaign.

  • The Warriors went 1-3 against the Tigers last season after splitting a four-game series in both 2023 and 2022.
  • Prior to the 2022 matchup between Indian Hills and Cowley, the previous meeting between the two clubs came in Grand Junction, CO for the JUCO World Series in both 1997 and 1998. Indian Hills defeated Cowley 11-6 in the second round in 1997 before falling to the Tigers in the elimination game 15-9. The Tigers went on to the win the World Series that year. In 1998, Indian Hills defeated Cowley 17-7 to advance to the elimination finals, but eventually fell to San Jacinto to place third overall. Cowley went on to win its second consecutive title.
  • The two programs have combined for 19 all-time appearances at the JUCO World Series (IHCC - 12, Cowley 9).

SCOUTING THE TIGERS

Cowley entered the new year ranked No. 20 in the NJCAA DI Baseball Preseason Poll and have jumped to No. 18 in the first regular season ranking of the year.

  • The Tigers are off to a 5-2 start on the year, going 2-2 in the team's last four outings, including 1-2 against No. 7 McLennan Community College (TX).
  • Cowley is coming off a 43-18 season from a year ago, the team's fourth consecutive year with at least 39 wins.
  • The Tigers are outscoring their opponents 49-27 on the year.
  • Through seven games, the Tigers have connected on 15 extra base hits, including four home runs and 10 doubles.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Warriors' road swing to open the year continues with a trip back to Kansas next weekend. Indian Hills will travel to Colby Community College (KS) in Colby, KS for a doubleheader on March 8 before taking on Kansas City Kansas Community College for a twinbill on March 9. The Warriors' home opener is slated for March 15-16 at Pat Daugherty Field against St. Cloud Technical & Community College.
