WARRIORS SWEEP CYCLONES IN HOME OPENER

Centerville, IA – The Indian Hills Baseball team opened up its 2025 home slate with an afternoon sweep of St. Cloud Technical & Community College (MN) on Saturday at Pat Daugherty Field. The Warriors dropped the Cyclones 11-1 in five innings before taking the nightcap 7-4.

The Warriors move to 5-11 on the year with the afternoon sweep. Indian Hills has now won 9 of its last 11 home openers and improve to 6-3 all-time vs. the Cyclones.

Sophomore Zachari Pace (Colorado Springs, CO/Vista Ridge) powered the offense with seven RBI on the day. Pace finished the afternoon with three base hits, including two triples in the game two victory.

The Warrior pitching staff saw a dominant performance from sophomore Cole Huebner (Edmonton, Alberta/Strathcona) in the opener with a complete game victory. Huebner struck out nine batters on the day, one shy of his career-high. Huebner scattered three hits with just one run allowed as the Warriors defeated the Cyclones in a run-rule shortened affair.

Playing on its home diamond for the first time this season, Indian Hills struck first in the opener with two runs in the bottom half of the second. The Warriors tacked on three more in the third as Pace delivered a two-run single up the middle.

Indian Hills broke the game open in the fourth with four more runs, aided by an RBI single from Boris Rodriguez (San Sebastian, Puerto Rico/ESCAED) and a two-run double from Ethan Acevedo (Monroe, NY/Iona Prep).

Huebner kept the Cyclones off-balance throughout the game as the sophomore struck out the side in the fourth. Sophomore AJ Marchetti (Wheeling, IL/Wheeling) capped the victory with a walk-off two-run double in the bottom of the fifth to score Cale Clark (Marionville, MO/Marionville) and Tijmen Nagel (Amsterdam, Netherlands/Roc Amsterdam).

Nagel and Marchetti both collected a pair of hits in the opener while Pace drove in three runs.

In the nightcap, Pace put the Warriors on the board with a two-run triple in the bottom of the second. Freshman Kevin Ramos (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Springfield Commonwealth) extended the lead to 3-0 with a run-scoring single to right center in the third. St. Cloud Tech battled back to even the game at three in the fourth, but the Warriors took advantage of a Cyclone throwing error in the fourth to regain the lead.

Clinging to the one-run lead, Pace delivered another two-run triple to center to put Indian Hills ahead 6-3. A sacrifice fly from Acevedo tacked on an insurance run as the Warriors held on down the stretch to complete the victory.

Freshman Yuan-Kai Chang (Taipei, Taiwan/Taipei Dai) struck out six batters in five innings of work to earn his first collegiate victory on the mound. Fellow freshman Lincoln Muller (Delta, Canada/Sands Secondary) earned the save in relief with 1.2 innings of work.

Both Ramos and Pace finished game two with a pair of knocks as the Warriors pounded out eight hits in the victory.

The two teams will wrap up the weekend series with a single game Sunday afternoon. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
