Centerville, IA – Freshman Kevin Ramos (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Springfield Commonwealth) of the Indian Hills Baseball team has been named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Baseball Offensive Player of the Week, announced by the national office Tuesday.
Along with Ramos' national honor, the freshman third baseman was also named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Baseball Player of the Week. Ramos helped lead the Warriors to three wins last week, including a pair of conference wins on the road at Northeast Community College (NE).
Ramos produced one of the all-time great individual performances in school history for the Warriors, tallying four home runs in a single game to lead Indian Hills to a 9-4 win over Northeast. In the game two win over the Hawks, Ramos went 5-5 at the plate with five RBI and the four home runs. Ramos added a 3-3 performance with a double and a triple in the opener for the Warriors.
On the week, Ramos went 11-16 (.688) with five home runs, 10 RBI, and eight runs scored. Over his last eight games played, Ramos is batting .640 at the plate.
Ramos currently leads the Warriors with in batting average (.390), on-base percentage (.544), slugging percentage (.712), hits (23), home runs (5) and runs (17).
The Warriors return to action Wednesday afternoon for an ICCAC matchup against Kirkwood Community College. First pitch from Cedar Rapids is set for 2:00 PM.
