WARRIORS TAKE SERIES FINALE WITH IOWA CENTRAL

Centerville, IA – The Indian Hills Baseball team closed out its weekend Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) series against Iowa Central Community College with a doubleheader split at Pat Daugherty Field. The Warriors dropped game one 8-3 before taking the finale 12-6.

The Warriors salvaged the split on Saturday to move to 10-15 overall and 4-5 in ICCAC action on the year. Indian Hills pounded out 10 hits in the nightcap to reach double-digit runs for the sixth time this season.

The Warriors fell behind 1-0 in the first inning of game one on Saturday before a double steal in the third allowed Hamdel Urena (Santo Domingo North, Dominican Republic/Premier Prospects Academy) to score an even the game. The Tritons pulled ahead 4-1, but a run-scoring double from Kevin Ramos (Santo Domingo/Dominican Republic/Springfield Commonwealth) and a sacrifice fly from AJ Marchetti (Wheeling, IL/Wheeling) pulled the Warriors back within one. Despite the rally, Iowa Central used a four-run eighth to pull away and take the opener.

Freshman Yuan-Kai Chang (Taipei, Taiwan/Taipei Dai) struck out a career-high eight batters in 5.1 innings of work, allowing just two earned runs. Sophomore Tijmen Nagel (Amsterdam, Netherlands/Roc Amsterdam) collected a pair of hits, his sixth multi-hit game of the year.

Game two saw the Warriors strike first with a run-scoring single from Jose Lopez (Tas Tablas, Panama/Springfield Commonwealth)  in the bottom half of the first. Diego Mendez (Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico/ESCAED) added an RBI double in the second as the Warriors jumped out to a 3-0 advantage.

Iowa Central tallied a pair of runs to stay within striking distance, but the Warriors broke things open with a four-run fifth. Cale Clark (Marionville, MO/Marionville) and Ethan Acevedo (Monroe, NY/Iona Prep) delivered RBI base hits to give Indian Hills a 9-2 advantage.

Ramos, this week's National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Baseball Player of the Week, capped the win with a two-run home run to right in the bottom of the eighth.

Evan Peterson (Longmont, CO/Mead) made his first collegiate start on the mound, striking out five batters in three innings of work. Kurtis Smith (Melbourne, Australia/Wantirna) struck out six in four innings of relief work while Owen Corbett (Oswego, IL/Oswego) earned his first collegiate victory with two shutout innings out of the bullpen.

Lopez, Ramos, Clark, and Mendez all tallied two hit games for the Warriors. Over his last 20 contests, Ramos is batting .540 (20-37) with six home runs and 14 RBI.

The Warriors hit the road April 2 to take on Marshalltown Community College in Marshalltown, IA.
