Centerville, IA – The Indian Hills Baseball team extended its win streak to six games with an 18-10 Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) victory over North Iowa Area Community College at Pat Daugherty Field on Tuesday afternoon. The Warriors move to 15-16 overall on the year and 9-5 in league play.
The Warriors tallied at least one run in seven of the eight innings the team came to bat, including a seven-run eighth to put the game out of reach. Eight different players collected a hit in the win as the Warriors reached double-digit runs for the fifth time in the last six contests. During the Warriors' six-game win streak, Indian Hills is outscoring their opponents 81-27.
Sophomore Cale Clark (Marionville, MO/Marionville), this week's ICCAC DI Baseball Offensive Player of the Week, drove in four runs on the day while going 2-5 at the plate. Kevin Ramos (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Springfield Commonwealth) went 2-4 with three RBI while Ethan Acevedo (Monroe, NY/Iona Prep), Jose Lopez (Las Tablas, Panama/Springfield Commonwealth), and Diego Mendez (Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico/ESCAED) each added two hits apiece.
Five different players saw action on the mound, led by Evan Peterson's (Longmont, CO/Mead) starting performance. Peterson went five innings to secure his second win of the year while Owen Corbett (Oswego, IL/Oswego) earned the save with 1.2 innings of relief work.
Ramos gave the Warriors the initial lead in the bottom half of the first inning before NIACC plated three runs in the second to jump on top. Mendez chipped away at the deficit with a run-scoring single in the second followed by an RBI from Clark in the third.
The Warrior offense erupted in the fourth with a five-spot, highlighted by a RBI base hit from Ramos and a run-scoring double down the left field line from AJ Marchetti (Wheeling, IL/Wheeling). Indian Hills eventually built its lead to 10-5 in the sixth, but NIACC was able to rally to pull back within one, 11-10 in the eighth.
Clinging to the one-run advantage, the Warrior offense came to life once again, producing seven runs in the bottom half of the eighth inning. Ramos delivered an RBI double while Clark capped the scoring with a two-run double to left.
Corbett closed out the contest on the mound with a pair of strikeouts in the top half of the ninth for his first save of the year.
Indian Hills is now 12-2 on the year when scoring first.
The Warriors head to Ellsworth Community College for a single ICCAC matchup on April 10 before returning to Pat Daugherty Field for a three-game series this weekend with Des Moines Area Community College.
