Ottumwa -- Indian Hills sophomore Quevyn Winters has signed his letter of intent to play basketball for the University of Washington.

Winters will make it two players off this year's national runner-up IHCC team to play in the Pac-12 next year. Teammate Roosevelt Scott signed with Arizona State in the early signing period last fall.

Winters came to Indian Hills after a year at Duquesne University and enjoyed a solid season with the Warriors. He averaged 12.3 points and five rebounds a game and was third on the team in 3-pointers with 58. He shot nearly 39 percent from 3-point range, 40 percent from the field and almost 73 percent from the foul line.

The future Washington Husky said he looks forward to getting to his new school. "I'm really versatile. I'm a scorer and a shooter, as our fans saw this year, but I can also defend multiple positions."

At Washington, Winters will play for coach Lorenzo Romar, who attended a late-season IHCC home game at the Hellyer Center and also traveled to Hutchinson, Kan., to watch Winters play in the national tournament.

"Coach Romar and (assistant) coach (T.J.) Otzelberger are good guys," Winters said. "Coach Otzelberger (a former assistant at Iowa State) recruited me when I was in high school. The coaches are real genuine and they care about you on and off the court. Whatever they want my role to be, I'll do it."

The native of Milwaukee, Wis., was named honorable mention All-Region.

When asked if he got what he was looking for when he left Duquesne after his freshman season, Winters said, "Definitely. I really enjoyed my year at Indian Hills. It's a good school. We had a great run this year."

In addition to Scott, IHCC also had Lester Medford, recently named a first-team All-American, sign a letter of intent last fall. Medford is headed to Baylor.
