Ottumwa -- Jan Svandrlik, a member of the Indian Hills basketball team for the past two seasons, has been recognized by the National Junior College Athletic Association for his work in the classroom during the 2015-16 academic year.

Svandrlik, who is headed to Iona College in New York after completing his IHCC career, earned a Superior Academic Achievement Award from the NJCAA for having a grade point average between 3.80 and 3.99. There are three different award categories based on GPAs.

A native of Plzen, Czech Republic, Svandrlik was among 27 Indian Hills student-athletes who earned NJCAA academic awards for this past year.
