Ottumwa -- Indian Hills completed a perfect first 10 games of its regular season schedule by romping to an 87-68 win over Southwestern CC at the Hellyer Center on Saturday night.  The win avenged a loss -- one of just five suffered by the Warriors -- a year ago to a Southwestern team that went on to win the NJCAA Division II national title.  It also finished off an impressive stretch of four games in which Indian Hills knocked off teams with a combined record of 36-1.

In last year's win against IHCC, Southwestern came out firing, making eight early 3-pointers and ending up with 14 3s for the game.  In the return engagement Saturday, the Spartans came to life, after making only three field goals in the first eight-plus minutes of the second half.  When they got untracked they were able to shave a 23-point deficit down to 11, hitting five 3-pointers and making the Warriors and their fans a little uneasy.

Freshman Devontae Lane helped stop the Southwestern comeback attempt with a pair of foul shots with 4:31 to play.  After a Spartan basket, the Warriors' Shane Gatling, who led all scorers with 22 points, nailed back-to-back threes.  Ivan Aurrecoechea, enjoying his second straight double-double, hit a free throw, Lane hit two more from the line and the lead was back to 20.  Gatling drilled one more three after that, giving him six for the evening.

Aurrecoechea scored 12 points and hauled in 14 rebounds.  Antonio "Booman" Williams scored 12, and Lane and Connor Murrell tossed in 11 each.

Indian Hills had a huge edge on the glass, outboarding Southwestern, 50-30.

Two separate 7-0 runs allowed IHCC to pull away from the Spartans in the opening half.  The lead was 11 at intermission and grew to 61-38 about midway through the second period.  The Warriors were able to withstand the Spartans 3-point barrage after that and improved to 10-0 prior to a 10-day break without any games.

Southwestern, ranked No. 1 in the preseason DII poll, sustained its second loss and is 9-2.  They attempted 38 3-pointers and shot only 34 percent from the field.

The Warriors are idle until hosting Illinois Central on Dec. 12.
