Ottumwa, IA – William Beugre-Kassi (Pontoise, France/Albert Thomas) opened his sophomore campaign in dominant fashion over the weekend for Indian Hills Men's Basketball. For his efforts, Kassi has been named this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week.
Kassi led the Warriors in their opening weekend of competition at the Meridian Credit Union Classic at the Hellyer Center. In two contests, Kassi averaged 25.5 points per game on 64.3 percent shooting to go along with 9.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals.
Kassi opened the new year with a career performance as the sophomore went for 27 points and 10 rebounds along with a pair of steals in an 82-64 win over Cloud County Community College (KS) on Friday night. The double-double was the first of Kassi's career. In the win, Kassi went 10-13 from the floor, including 2-3 from three-point range. Nine of Kassi's 10 rebounds came on the offensive glass.
A National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Region 11 Honorable Mention pick as a freshman, Kassi followed up the next night with 24 points and nine rebounds in a narrow 87-86 loss to Butler Community College (KS). Kassi tallied five more offensive rebounds along with a steal and a block for the Warriors.
Kassi and the Warriors are back in action this weekend at the Hellyer Center with the RV & Powersports Classic. Indian Hills opens up against Pratt Community College at 7:00 PM on Friday followed by a 7:00 PM date with Tyler Junior College (TX) on Saturday night.
