Levelland, TX – No. 5 Indian Hills capped an unbeaten weekend in West Texas with an impressive 76-62 win over No. 18 nationally ranked Frank Phillips College (TX) Saturday. The Warriors, who went 2-0 at the Texan Classic, moves to 11-3 overall on the year.
The Warriors picked up their second win over a team in the national rankings in as many days, and third of the year, after dropping the Plainsmen in the first all-time meeting between the two programs. Leading by just one at halftime, the Warriors pulled away down the stretch to secure the program's ninth consecutive win.
Sophomore Trenton Walters (Frisco, TX/Radford) led the offense with 17 points on the night, including 11 in the first half. Freshman Mason Costello (Waukee, IA/Waukee) hit three first half three-point shots and finished the day with 16 points. Amonte Allen-Johnson (Flint, MI/Texas A&M - Corpus Christi) produced another solid effort for the Warriors with 12 points and seven rebounds.
The Warriors held Frank Phillips to just 20.6 percent from three-point range on the day, including a 1-18 effort over the final 20 minutes of play. The Plainsmen entered Saturday's affair shooting nearly 37.0 percent from beyond the arc. On the offensive side, the Warriors shot 45.0 percent from deep, the team's third-best mark of the year, including a 4-8 effort in the second half.
A night after rallying past tournament host South Plains College (TX) despite a lopsided rebounding disadvantage, the Warriors bounced back on the glass on Saturday with 30-25 edge over the Plainsmen. Sophomore Jamal Entezami (Berlin, Germany/Hermann-Ehlers Gymnasium), playing with four fouls for a majority of the second half, closed out the game with 10 rebounds, two shy of a career-high. Fellow sophomore William Beugre-Kassi (Pontoise, France/Albert Thomas) added eight points and five rebounds in the win for the Warriors.
The Warriors' competitive stretch against nationally ranked programs continues on Friday night with a home date vs. No. 3 Snow College (UT) as part of the three-day Financial Partners Classic at the Hellyer Center. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM.
