KASSI'S BUCKET LIFTS NO. 2 WARRIORS OVER BLACKHAWKS

Burlington, IA – Sophomore William Beugre-Kassi (Pontoise, France/Albert Thomas) put home a bucket with 4.1 seconds to play to lift No. 2 Indian Hills Men's Basketball to a 57-55 win at Southeastern Community College on Saturday night. The win secures the regular season Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) title for the Warriors.

Kassi's late heroics gave the Warriors their fifth consecutive conference win over the Blackhawks with another thriller in the longtime league rivalry. Indian Hills has now won three of the last four contests against the Blackhawks which has been decided by three points or less. Along with its five-game winning streak vs. the Blackhawks, Indian Hills has won five consecutive games at Loren Walker Arena and eight of the last 10 matchups on the road.

The Warriors, who defeated Southeastern 81-57 at the Hellyer Center back on January 18, clinched the regular season ICCAC title after improving to 3-0 in league play this year. Indian Hills has now earned at least a share of the league title for 17 consecutive seasons, including 14 outright titles with this season's triumph.

Indian Hills led by as many as 10 in the opening half vs. the Blackhawks as Mason Costello (Waukee, IA/Waukee) powered the Warriors with a trio of three-point shots in the opening frame. Southeastern clawed its way back in the second half to set the stage for another down-to-the-wire finish in the 149th all-time meeting between the two clubs separated by just 68 miles.

After Southeastern tied the game at 55-all with under 30 seconds to play, sophomore Trenton Walters (Frisco, TX/Radford) drove the lane to draw a pair of defenders on the left side of the lane in the closing seconds. Walters found a streaking Kassi who was left unguarded under the basket for the easy two. A last-second stop from the Warrior defense at the buzzer pushed Indian Hills to its 71st all-time victory over the Blackhawks.

With the win, the Warriors will host the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 11 Championship at the Hellyer Center March 8. Indian Hills will play the winner of Southeastern and Marshalltown Community College who will square off in the opening round on March 5.

Next up for Indian Hills is a trip to Marshalltown for its final regular season ICCAC affair on February 22 at 7:00 PM.
