Ottumwa, IA – Sophomore Trenton Walters (Frisco, TX/Radford) of the No. 3 nationally ranked Indian Hills Men's Basketball squad has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week after helping the Warriors clinch the program's 21st region championship.
In the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 11 title game, Walters poured in a game-high 20 points as the Warriors went on to drop second-seeded Southeastern Community College 72-56 at the Hellyer Center. Walters finished the game 3-5 from the floor, including 2-3 from three-point range while going 12-13 from the free throw line. The guard chipped in two steals, two assists, and two rebounds in the win.
The sophomore has now scored in double-figures in 16 contests on the year, including three games with at least 20 points. On the year, Walters is averaging 10.5 points per game while shooting 47.8 percent from the floor. Walters is averaging a team-high 3.8 assists per game and 3.0 rebounds per contest.
The ICCAC Athlete of the Week honor is the second of the year for Walters.
With the Region title in hand, the Warriors will now head to Glendive, MT to take on No. 22 nationally ranked Dawson Community College (MT) for the NJCAA North Central District Championship Saturday, March 15 at 7:00 PM.
