Glendive, MT – The No. 3 nationally ranked Indian Hills Men's Basketball squad will look to punch its ticket to the national tournament Saturday night as the Warriors take on No. 22 Dawson Community College (MT) for the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) North Central District Championship.

STARTING FIVE

  • The Warriors clinched a bid to the NJCAA North Central District Championship with a win over Southeastern Community College to claim the program's 21st all-time NJCAA Region 11 Championship.
  • Sophomore Trenton Walters has been named the ICCAC Athlete of the Week as well as the Indian Hills Hy-Vee Student-Athlete of the Month
  • As of Friday, four teams across the country have already punched their ticket to the NJCAA DI Men's Basketball National Championship:
  • Dawson will be the Warriors' 11th opponent from a different state this year, with the Warriors securing wins over teams from nine different states:
    • Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, MontanaMinnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Texas, Utah.
  • Indian Hills is 19-9 overall in the month of March in the last nine seasons

SERIES HISTORY

For the fourth time in the last six seasons, Indian Hills and Dawson will square off for the automatic bid to the national tournament.

  • The two sides have only met three times in program history, with each occurring in the District title game:
    • Indian Hills 115, Dawson 99 (March 5, 2022 - Ottumwa, IA)
    • Dawson 68, Indian Hills 67 (April 10, 2021 - Glendive, MT)
    • Indian Hills 92, Dawson 65 (March 5, 2020 - Ottumwa, IA)
  • Indian Hills vs. Dawson History (Since 2010)

SCOUTING THE BUCS

One of the top offensive programs in the nation, Dawson enters the District title match after knocking off Williston State College (ND) 93-89 in the NJCAA Region 13 Championship on March 9.

  • The Bucs rank second in the nation with 102.1 points per game.
  • Dawson ranks in the top-10 in the nation in 11 different statistical categories.
  • Seth Amunrud leads the team with 21.4 points per game while Justin Asi adds 18.2 points per contest.
  • Eight different players average at least 7.5 points per contest.
  • The Bucs are led by head coach Joe Peterson in his 10th season at the helm of the program.

DISTRICT HISTORY

The Warriors have won 17 all-time NJCAA District Championships, including nine since the 2011-12 season.

As of Friday, eight former Warrior student-athletes and coaches are still in contention in their respective postseason tournaments at the four-year level:

  • Eddiean Tirado - Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville (Ohio Valley Conference Champions, first-ever bid to NCAA Tournament)
  • Kiran Oliver - Morgan State University (MEAC Tournament Semifinals)
  • Taj Anderson - Louisiana State University - Shreveport (NAIA National Championship First Round)
  • J'Vonne Hadley - University of Louisville (ACC Tournament Semifinals)
  • Andre Harris - Fairmont State University (NCAA DII Elite Eight)
  • Curtis Jones - Iowa State University (NCAA At-Large Bid)
  • Tyon Grant-Foster - Grand Canyon University (NCAA At-Large Bid)
  • Josh Sash (coach) - Drake University (MVC Champions, bid to the NCAA Tournament)

WHAT'S NEXT 

A win for the Warriors will give Indian Hills the automatic bid to the upcoming NJCAA DI Men's Basketball National Championship in Hutchinson, KS. With a loss, the Warriors will await a potential at-large bid to 'The Tournament'. This year's national championship gets underway March 22.
