Indian Hills Men's Basketball Head Coach Cole Dewey has announced the hiring of Trey Rakes as the program's assistant coach. Rakes began his duties with the Warriors May 28.

"It's truly an honor to join coach Dewey and the Indian Hills family," stated Rakes. "Indian Hills is a first-class institution and athletic program that is accustomed to winning and hanging banners. I am very excited to join the rich tradition and to be a part of Warrior Nation."

Rakes brings a wealth of experience to Dewey's staff. Rakes spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach at National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI power Three Rivers College (MO) where the Raiders earned back-to-back trips to the NJCAA Region 16 semifinal round. Rakes was instrumental with the staff in all areas of operation, including scouting, recruiting, and academic oversight.

"Trey is a tireless worker who values the same things I value in life and in basketball," stated Dewey. "Trey is great at building relationships with student-athletes based on honesty and trust, which is what it takes to coach guys hard these days. Not only does he excel with the players, but he will be someone the community will love to get to know as well."

Prior to his time at Three Rivers, Rakes spent one season at Coastal Carolina University as the Player Development and Video Coordinator where the Chanticleers reached the championship game of The Basketball Classic. Rakes' duties included all video-related activities, including scouting and analysis while managing support staff personnel. Rakes previously served as a graduate assistant with the Chanticleers from 2017-2019.

Rakes served two seasons as the Associate Head Coach at Colby Community College (KS) from 2019-21. The Trojans produced a historic season in 2019-20, earning the program's first-ever bid to the NJCAA National Championship in Hutchinson, KS. Colby captured the regular season conference title and posted a 27-5 overall record to secure an at-large bid as the No. 11 seed before the tournament was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Trey will be an integral piece to what we are trying to do here," Dewey added, "and has already hit the ground running. His experience at the JUCO level as well as his time at the NCAA Division I ranks is exactly what I was looking for in this position. I couldn't be more excited to get to work with Coach Rakes."

A native of Mount Washington, KY, Rakes spent four seasons as a player at the University of Pikeville where he was a part of a school record 112 wins. Rakes received multiple honors during his time with the Bears, including the 2017 Champion of Character Award, the 2017 Scholar Athlete Award, and the 2017 Charles B. Chrisman Male Athletic Leadership Award.

Rakes earned a Master of Science in Sport Management degree from Coastal Carolina University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Pikeville.
