Two Wins in Home Debut

SB vs SC

Ottumwa -- Indian Hills got a pair of two-run homers from Lexi Smith and standout pitching performances by Abby Straight and Carlyn Stanley as the Warriors swept St. Charles (Mo.), 6-0 and 9-1, on Wednesday.  Playing for the first time at the newly-refurbished R.L. Hellyer Field Indian Hills upped its season record to 18-5.

Smith went deep twice with a teammate aboard in the opener, once in the 3rd inning and again in the 5th.  That was more than enough offense for Straight, who allowed only one hit and struck out 13.  Taylor Takushi doubled to drive in Taylor Jones just before Smith's first round-tripper.  Erin Kuba singled home Jones with IHCC's final run in the 6th.

Stanley gave up a first-inning run in game two -- St. Charles' only score for the day -- and nothing else.  Helaina Johnson had a two-run single to open the Indian Hills scoring, the Warriors picked up another run on Jones' infield single the next inning, and then broke the game open with a four-run 3rd.  Johnson added another RBI with a sacrifice fly.

Indian Hills is slated to play five home doubleheaders in six days next week, starting with a twinbill against NIACC on Tuesday.
