Warriors Split Doubleheader vs. Southeastern

Ottumwa -- In a day of ups and downs, Indian Hills softball split an ICCAC doubleheader with visiting Southeastern Tuesday at R.L. Hellyer Field. The early afternoon saw the team rewarded for its recent 10-game winning streak by jumping three spots in the latest NJCAA Division I Top 20 poll from No. 20 to No. 17. The Warriors then promptly took that streak to 11 games on the strength of a walk-off home run from Jaylie Reints to win the opener from the Blackhawks, 4-1. The nightcap wasn't as favorable, however, as Southeastern (16-23, 2-6) got late back-to-back homers to break a 3-3 tie, going on to win 5-3. The loss not only snaps the winning streak, but it drops IHCC a game behind rival Iowa Western in the loss column in the race for the Warriors potential fourth straight Region XI regular season title with just four games remaining. Indian Hills will get back on the diamond in non-league play Thursday as it travels to Indianola to battle the Simpson JV for two games beginning at 4 p.m. IHCC will wrap up ICCAC play at home this weekend with a doubleheader against Marshalltown on Saturday and a crucial twinbill with Iowa Western Sunday. The regular season concludes next Tuesday at Cedar Rapids with two games against Kirkwood.
