Indian Hills Pitchers Stifle Storm

Indianola, Iowa -- Four Indian Hills pitchers combined to permit only seven hits and two earned runs as the Warriors swept the Simpson College JV on Thursday, winning by scores of 6-3 and 3-0.

The Simpson junior varsity squad scored the only three runs it would produce the entire day in the 1st inning of the opener to take a 3-2 lead.  That came after IHCC had plated two in the top of the 1st.  The Warriors tied the score with a run in the 4th, went ahead with two in the 5th and tacked on an insurance tally in the 6th.  Leadoff batter Taylor Jones scored half of the six IHCC runs and stole three bases.  Number-two hitter Taylor Takushi singled and tripled and knocked in two runs and Jaylie Reints also picked up two RBIs.  Starter Tia Kohl worked three innings and gave way to Abby Straight, who struck out eight of the 13 batters she faced in four nearly-perfect innings of relief.  Straight got the win to improve to 12-1 for the spring.

Alexis Westercamp was the hitting star in game two.  Her fourth-inning two-run homer provided the only runs Indian Hills needed.  Katelyn Banning had the other RBI and the runs were scored by Reints, Straight and Westercamp.  The pitching combination of Olivia Goodale and Carlyn Stanley allowed just three hits in the shutout win.  Stanley fanned seven in her four innings.

The Warriors still have a shot to win their 4th consecutive conference regular-season title, but will likely have to win all four of their games at home this weekend to make that happen.  They will battle Marshalltown on Saturday and Iowa Western on Sunday in a pair of twinbills.  Iowa Western currently has a one-game lead in the loss column over the Warriors.
