Warriors Lose Two at Kirkwood

at KCC

Cedar Rapids, Iowa -- In its final non-conference contests of the regular season, Indian Hills dropped two games to Kirkwood on Tuesday in a battle of two ranked teams.  The Eagles, rated 5th in NJCAA Division II, took both games of the doubleheader, knocking off No. 14 (DI) Indian Hills, 4-3 in 8 innings and 9-1.

Kirkwood broke a 1-1 tie in the second game with an 8-run 5th inning.  Indian Hills had gained the tie with an unearned run in the top of the 5th before the uprising by the Eagles in the bottom of the inning.  Abby Straight had two of the Warriors' five hits.  She also got the start in the circle and was knocked out with one down in the 5th inning, after allowing six hits and the first five KCC runs.  Tia Kohl finished up.

In game one, Indian Hills plated their three runs in the 3rd inning.  Kirkwood answered with two in the 4th, tied the score in the 6th, then won the game on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 8th.  The Warriors had a chance to break the 3-3 deadlock in the top of the 8th, but left the bases loaded.

Erin Kuba and Helaina Johnson had two hits each for IHCC and Kuba picked up the only RBI.

Olivia Goodale and Carlyn Stanley shared the pitching duties, with Stanley taking the loss.

IHCC concludes the regular season with a 43-10 record and now gets ready for the Region XI postseason tournament this weekend, which the Warriors will host at R.L. Hellyer Field.  Indian Hills will be looking to win its 4th straight postseason region title, which would match the number of regular-season championships it has captured.  The Warriors will begin their title defense against Marshalltown CC at 11:00 Friday morning.
