WARRIORS FALL TO GALVESTON IN TEXAS

Galveston, TX – The Indian Hills Softball team fell on the road to Galveston College (TX) on Saturday, dropping an 11-2 contest. The Warriors fall to 0-3 on the year.

Galveston jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening frame, but starting pitcher Margot van Eijl (Oosterhout, Netherlands/Calandlyceum) was able to hold the Whitecaps scoreless over the next two innings. Galveston eventually tacked on a run in the fourth inning before the Warriors responded in the top of the fifth inning with a two-run home run from freshman Sydney Anderson (Elkhart, IA/North Polk), the first of the season.

Galveston responded with eight runs in the bottom half of the inning to end the game by run rule.

Anderson finished the day with a pair of hits  while Yanna Roberts (Davenport, IA/Davenport North), Breanna Newton (Bettendorf, IA/Bettendorf), Abbi Cataldo (Altoona, IA/Southeast Polk), and Gretta Hartz (Runnells, IA/Southeast Polk) each added a knock. Roberts was credited with a run scored on Anderson's blast.

van Eijl struck out four batters in the loss for the Warriors.

Originally schedule as a doubleheader, Saturday's second game was called in the third inning due to darkness and was not completed. The result and statistics do not count for either team.

Indian Hills will continue its Texas trip with a doubleheader at Alvin Community College (TX) on Monday afternoon. First pitch is set for 2:00 PM.
