ANDERSON HOMERS, WARRIORS SPLIT AT TYLER

Tyler, TX – The Indian Hills Softball team split the day with Tyler Junior College (TX) on Tuesday afternoon as the Warriors took game one 6-2 before falling 3-2 in the nightcap. The Warriors move to 3-4 overall on the year.

Taking on its fourth opponent in the last five days during the team's Texas road trip, the Warriors opened up the day with three runs in the top of the first inning of game one. Freshman Sydney Anderson (Elkhart, IA/North Polk) sparked the offense once again with a run-scoring double and later scored to put Indian Hills on top.

After a two-run bottom half of the first inning, the Warriors' starting pitcher Madison Huisman (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny Centennial) settled down to limit the Apache bats. Huisman tossed five consecutive scoreless frames as the Warriors managed to extend its lead. Freshman Destiny Lewis (Indianola, IA/Indianola) scored a run in the third and added another run in the fifth as Anderson connected on a two-run home run, her third of the year.

Huisman allowed a run in the bottom half of the seventh, but closed out the game for the Warriors to earn the win, her second of the season. Huisman struck out three batters while allowing just one earned run in the victory.

Lewis and Anderson combined for five hits and five runs for the Warriors to pace the offense.

In a low-scoring affair in game two, the Warriors fell behind after a first inning run from the Apaches. Freshman hurler Madie Anderson (Mt. Pleasant, IA/Winfield Mt. Union) limited Tyler with scoreless innings over each of the next three frames.

The Warriors got on the board in the fifth inning as Breanna Newton (Bettendorf, IA/Bettendorf) recorded an RBI-double and later scored on an Abbi Cataldo (Altoona, IA/Southeast Polk) single to give Indian Hills a 2-1 lead.

The Warriors allowed the tying run in the bottom of the sixth inning before the Apaches eventually scored the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh to split the afternoon series in Texas.

Newton and Lewis both collected two hits in the loss for the Warriors. Madie Anderson tossed six innings with six strikeouts, issuing just one walk along the way as the freshman allowed just one earned run.
