WARRIOR SOFTBALL SWEEPS STATE FAIR AT HOME

Ottumwa, IA – Indian Hills Softball rolled to its eighth consecutive victory with a doubleheader sweep against State Fair Community College (MO) on Sunday. The Warriors took game one 5-1 before upending the Roadrunners 10-1 in the nightcap to move to 11-6 overall on the year.

The Warriors used a trio of home runs in game one to defeat the visiting Roadrunners. Destiny Lewis (Indianola, IA/Indianola), Sydney Anderson (Elkhart, IA/North Polk), and Gretta Hartz (Runnells, IA/Southeast Polk) all went deep to lead Indian Hills. Madi Huisman (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny Centennial) tossed five innings in the circle, allowing just two hits with six strikeouts to earn the win.

The Warrior offense continued its production in game two as the team combined for 13 hits in the win. Hartz and Kennedy Preston (Carlisle, IA/Carlisle) each recorded three hits while Lewis, Anderson, and Abbi Cataldo (Altoona, IA/Southeast Polk) all added two each. Anderson added a home run for the Warriors to tie Lewis for the team lead with nine on the year.

Freshman Madie Anderson (Mt. Pleasant, IA/Winfield Mt. Union) improved to 4-2 in the circle after pitching all five innings in the run-rule shortened affair. Anderson struck out six batters and allowed just two hits on the day.

Both teams held the other in check for the first two innings of play in game one as neither side plated a run. The Warriors finally broke the game open in the third with one swing of the bat from Hartz, a three-run home run to right. Sydney Anderson followed suit on the next at-bat with a solo shot for the 4-0 lead.

Lewis extended the lead to 5-0 in the fifth with her ninth home run of the year to put the game out of reach. The freshman has now tallied seven home runs in her last nine games.

Huisman continued to excel in the circle as the sophomore has now gone four consecutive appearances without allowing a run, a stretch of 15.2 innings. Margot van eijl (Oosterhout, Netherlands/Calandlyceum) closed out the game with three strikeouts in two innings.

The Warriors struck first in game two with a four-run frame in the second. Alex Beard (Albia, IA/Ablia) delivered an RBI single for the game's first run before Lewis drove in two on a double to center. Beard later took advantage of a Roadrunner miscue for the game's fourth run.

State Fair got on the board with a run in the fourth before the Warriors tacked on four more runs in the bottom half. Preston delivered a two-run single and Cataldo added two RBI for an 8-1 lead. Sydney Anderson delivered a two run home run in the fifth to close out the game.

Madie Anderson has now won her last three starts for Indian Hills and leads the team with 43 strikeouts on the year.

Originally scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, the Warriors will now host Lincoln Land Community College for a doubleheader on Monday afternoon. First pitch is slated for 2:30 PM at R.L. Hellyer Field.
