SOFTBALL SHUTS OUT LOGGERS FOR 10TH STRAIGHT

Ottumwa, IA – The Indian Hills Softball team picked up two more wins on Monday to extend its winning streak to 10 games. The Warriors defeated Lincoln Land Community College (IL) 14-0 and 8-0 at R.L. Hellyer Field to improve to 13-6 overall on the year.

The Warriors combined for 26 hits and 22 runs on the day without allowing a score from the Loggers in one of the most complete performances of the season for head coach Lindsay Diehl's squad. As a team, the Warriors recorded nine extra base hits, including three home runs while the pitching staff allowed just five base hits in total to earn the team's fifth consecutive doubleheader sweep.

Originally scheduled for a Tuesday matchup, Monday's contest saw the Warriors plate a run in each of the first two innings of game one behind a Kennedy Preston (Carlisle, IA/Carlisle) RBI single in the first and a bases loaded walk to Sydney Anderson (Elkhart, IA/North Polk) in the second.

Indian Hills poured it on in the third inning with 10 runs to pull away. Gretta Hartz (Runnells, IA/Southeast Polk) sparked the Warriors with a three-run home run before Anderson went back-to-back with a solo shot. The highlight of the frame went to Maddy Findley (Knoxville, IA/Knoxville) who connected on a pinch-hit grand slam to put Indian Hills ahead 12-0. Emma Bolton (Osceola, IA/Clarke) added an RBI single in the fourth and Claire Mathews (Centerville, IA/Centerville) rounded out the scoring with a sacrifice fly.

Freshman Destiny Lewis (Indianola, IA/Indianola) finished the day 3-4 at the plate while Hartz added two hits and two runs scored. Altogether, 12 different Warriors recorded a hit in the win.

Starting pitcher Madi Huisman (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny Centennial) struck out four batters with just one hit allowed to earn the win, improving to 6-2 overall on the year. Huisman lowered her season earned run average to 1.56 on the year.

Yanna Roberts (Davenport, IA/Davenport North) delivered the first run in game two with an RBI single. Indian Hills put together another impressive inning in the third with five runs. Abbi Cataldo (Altoona, IA/Southeast Polk) and Alex Beard (Albia, IA/Albia) each added run-scoring singles in the frame while Lewis doubled to drive in Beard. Cataldo added another RBI in the fourth before the Warriors closed out the game in the sixth with a run from Breanna Newton (Bettendorf, IA/Bettendorf).

Lewis added three more hits in the nightcap, including two doubles to finish the day 6-8 overall. The freshman standout ranks sixth in the nation with a 1.134 slugging percentage and 12th nationally with a .567 batting average. Lewis has now hit safely in 15 consecutive games.

Bryanna Mehaffy (Burlington, IA/Burlington) and Roberts recorded two hits in the win for the Warriors. Newton was hit by a pitch four times on the day – two in each game and now ranks second nationally with 11 hit by pitches on the season.

Indian Hills is set to open Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play this weekend with a four-game series at Marshalltown Community College. The two teams open up play at 1:00 PM on Saturday.
