Ottumwa, IA – The Indian Hills Softball team appeared in the national rankings for the first time in the regular season with a spot in the Receiving Votes category this week. The Warriors are currently on an 18-game winning streak.
The Warriors, who have not lost a game outside the state of Texas, are 21-6 overall and 6-0 in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play. The Warriors picked up eight wins alone last week against in-state opponents, outscoring the opposition 85-13. During its 18-game winning streak, the Warriors have outscored their opponents 214-25.
The Warriors previously earned national attention in the preseason NJCAA DI Softball poll when the team earned a spot in the Receiving Votes category. Indian Hills is the lone team from the ICCAC to appera in the national rankings.
Through 27 games, the Warriors rank in the top-10 nationally in four offensive categories. Indian Hills ranks No. 5 in the NJCAA with a .713 slugging percentage, No. 6 in on-base percentage at .473, 7th with 55 home runs, and 9th in batting average at .403. The Warriors also rank fifth in the nation with a .209 batting average against in the circle.
Freshman Destiny Lewis (Indianola, IA/Indianola) leads three different Warriors with a .500 batting average or better. Lewis ranks sixth nationally with a .578 mark and also ranks No. 4 in the country with a 1.167 slugging percentage. Lewis and teammate Syndey Anderson (Elkhart, IA/North Polk) are tied for 13th with 13 home runs on the season.
Madi Huisman (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny Centennial) has led the Warriors in the circle, winning six consecutive decisions while allowing just three earned runs along the way.
The Warriors travel to Johnson County Community College (KS) on Tuesday for a doubleheader in Overland Park, KS. First pitch is set for 2:00 PM.
