Burlington, IA – A thrilling 1-0 win in game two followed by an 8-2 victory in game two extended the Indian Hills Warriors' softball team's winning streak to 20 games. The Warriors improve to 23-6 overall and 8-0 in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play.
The Warriors needed extra innings in the opener, but Breanna Newton (Bettendorf, IA/Bettendorf) ensured the victory with a solo home run in the top of the ninth, the game's only run. Madi Huisman (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny Centennial) starred in the circle for the Warriors, going the distance while allowing just four base hits to pick up her team-leading 10th win of the season.
Both Newton and freshman Destiny Lewis (Indianola, IA/Indianola) recorded two hits apiece in the win as Indian Hills managed just four hits in total.
The Warriors returned to its explosive offensive approach in game two as Kenny Preston (Carlisle, IA/Carlisle) connected on a pair of home runs to help the Warriors pull away. Preston delivered a solo home run in the second before adding an RBI base hit in the third and another solo shot in the seventh.
Lewis added her team-leading 14th home run of the year in the fourth. Gretta Hartz (Runnels, IA/Southeast Polk) recorded a two-run base hit. Yanna Roberts (Davenport, IA/Davenport North) delivered an RBI triple for the Warriors.
Freshman Madie Anderson (Mt. Pleasant, IA/Winfield Mt. Union) earned the win in the circle to improve to 8-2 on the year.
The two teams return to action on Sunday afternoon for a doubleheader at 12:00 PM at the Wagner Complex in Burlington.
