WARRIORS SPLIT ON THE ROAD AT IOWA WESTERN

Council Bluffs, IA – The Indian Hills Softball team split a pair of contests on the road at Iowa Western Community College on Saturday. The Warriors fell in game one 8-7 before upending the Reivers 13-3 in game two.

The game one loss snapped the Warriors' historic winning streak at 26 games, the second-longest in program history. The Warriors move to 30-7 overall on the year and 13-1 in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play.

The Warriors struck first in game one as freshman Sydney Anderson's (Elkhart, IA/North Polk) torrid stretch at the plate continued with a solo home run in the bottom of the first. The Reivers answered immediately with two runs in the bottom half to take the lead and build the advantage to 4-1 with two more in the second.

Indian Hills battled back to tie the game at four with three runs in the third, including a two-run double from Breanna Newton (Bettendorf, IA/Bettendorf). Gretta Hartz (Runnells, IA/Southeast Polk) gave the Warriors a lead with an RBI single in the fifth, but Iowa Western responded once more with three runs to take a 7-5 lead.

The Warriors fought form behind once again as Newton contributed two more RBI to tie the game at seven. The sophomore connected on a solo home run in the fifth and drew a bases-loaded hit by pitch to even out the scoreboard. It was the Reivers who struck last though with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh to break the Warriors' streak.

The two teams exchanged runs early in game two. Indian Hills scored on a sacrifice fly in the top of the first and used a two-run home run from Destiny Lewis (Indianola, IA/Indianola) in the second for a 3-0 lead. Iowa Western battled back to tie the game with three runs in the third.

After two runs in the fourth from Indian Hills, the Warriors broke it open in the fifth with five runs before adding three more in the seventh on a three-run home run from Kennedy Preston (Carlisle, IA/Carlisle).

Freshman Madie Anderson (Mt. Pleasant, IA/Winfield Mt. Union) recorded her 10th win in the circle with a complete game and a career-high 11 strikeouts.

The Warriors head to Marshalltown, IA for a doubleheader with Marshalltown Community College at 2:00 PM on April 19. The two teams will then play a doubleheader in Ottumwa on April 20.
