WARRIORS CONTINUE TO CLIMB IN NATIONAL POLL

Ottumwa, IA – After a record-breaking weekend, the Indian Hills Softball team climbed three spots in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Softball Poll to No. 16. The Warriors are currently 43-8 overall on the year.

The Warriors, who set the all-time single season home run record as a team on Sunday, reached its highest rank of the year after going 6-0 last week. Indian Hills defeated Southeastern Community College in a pair of conference games before sweeping Iowa Western Community College in a four-game Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) series. The Warriors outscored their opponents 60-5 during the six-game stretch.

With the six league wins last week, the Warriors completed their ICCAC schedule with a 23-1 mark to clinch first-place in the upcoming NJCAA Region XI DI Softball Tournament May 6-8 in Burlington, IA. The five-team tournament opens up Thursday with the Warriors playing in Game No. 3 at 2:00 PM.

The Warriors continue to rank as one of the most productive offenses in the nation, both individually and as a team. Freshmen Sydney Anderson (Elkhart, IA/North Polk), the single season home run record holder and Destiny Lewis (Indianola, IA/Indianola) rank first in the nation in combined home runs between two teammates with 58 on the year. The two have also produced 165 RBI, the second most between two teammates in the NJCAA this year.

Indian Hills ranks second in the country with 118 team home runs on the year after hitting nine in Sunday's doubleheader sweep of Iowa Western. The Warriors also ranked third with 1,074 total bases and third with 240 extra base hits on the year. The team's slugging percentage of .731 ranks fifth nationally.

Prior to the NJCAA Region XI Tournament, the Warriors head to Cedar Rapids, IA for a nonconference doubleheader with Kirkwood Community College at 2:00 PM on Tuesday.
