WARRIORS COMPLETE FOUR-GAME SWEEP

Council Bluffs, IA – The Indian Hills Softball squad completed its four-game Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) sweep of Iowa Western Community College on Saturday. The Warriors dropped the Reivers 17-3 in six innings and 9-8 in the series finale to move to 14-6 overall and 4-0 in league play.

The Warriors, who swept Iowa Western in Friday's doubleheader at Reiver Field, returned to action Saturday with a potent offensive attack. The Warriors built a 7-1 lead through the first two innings of play and never looked back. Indian Hills eventually led 8-2 heading into the sixth inning before the Warriors broke the game open with a nine-spot in the top of the sixth.

Indian Hills tallied 13 hits in the win as five different individuals recorded two hits in the rout. Sophomore Destiny Lewis (Indianola, IA/Indianola) connected on two home runs while Sydney Anderson (Elkhart, IA/North Polk) added a third roundtripped for the Warriors. Lewis and Anderson, National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Americans a season ago, combined for four extra base hits and 10 RBI on the day.

Sophomore Madie Anderson (Mt. Pleasant, IA/Winfield Mt. Union), who tossed a no-hitter vs. the Reivers on Friday, recorded the win in the circle to move to 4-2 on the year.

In the series finale, it was the home team that built a quick lead with a 3-0 advantage after one inning of play. The Warriors responded in the second with a two-run single from Hannah Simpson (Fairfield, IA/Fairfield) before a Evan Fulk (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny) RBI single tied the game at three.

Iowa Western's offense answered back with back-to-back two-run frames for a 7-3 lead. Simpson sparked a rally in the fourth with a leadoff home run and the Warriors took advantage of an error in the frame to tack on another run and pull within two.

The momentum shifted in the fifth as the Warriors plated four runs to take its first lead of the finale. A two-run single from Abby Martin (Lamoni, IA/Lamoni) tied the game at seven followed by a two-run double from Sydney Anderson for the go-ahead runs.

The Reivers plated one run in the bottom half of the fifth to pull within one, 9-8, but sophomore Ryann Cheek (Eldridge, IA/North Scott) tossed 2.2 innings of relief to secure the save and give the Warriors the four-game sweep.

Lewis, Simpson, and Sydney Anderson each tallied two hits in the win. As a team, the Warriors pounded out 47 hits in the four-game series.

Cheek was once again dominant in relief as the sophomore southpaw issued just one baserunner, a walk, in the final 2.2 innings to give Indian Hills the win.

The Warriors return to action on the road Thursday afternoon for a doubleheader at North Central Missouri College in Trenton, MO.
