LEWIS SWEEPS NATIONAL, CONFERENCE HONORS

Ottumwa, IA – Sophomore Destiny Lewis (Indianola, IA/Indianola) has been named both the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Softball Player of the Week. Lewis powered the Warriors to a 6-0 record last week.

The national player of the week honor for Lewis is the second weekly NJCAA award Lewis has earned in her illustrious career after also being recognized as a freshman. Lewis has now earned three consecutive ICCAC Athlete of the Week awards. The sophomore has been recognized by the ICCAC as its conference player of the week six times throughout her Indian Hills career. Along with the Warrior pitching staff, Indian Hills has accumulated eight weekly honors from the ICCAC this year.

Lewis continued her torrid pace midway through the 2023 campaign with another dominant week at the plate. Lewis posted a .545 batting average last week with eight extra base hits, including four home runs. Lewis homered in four consecutive games last week and went for the cycle with a 5-5 performance against Ellsworth.

Lewis continued to produce at the plate, driving in seven runs while scoring 15 more times throughout the week. The all-time career home run leader has now belted 14 home runs on the year and owns a .454 batting average. Lewis moved up to No. 3 in the career total bases category with 312 for her career, just 43 bases shy of the all-time record.

The Warriors return to action Wednesday afternoon for an ICCAC doubleheader at home vs. Iowa Western Community College. First pitch is set for 2:00 PM from R.L. Hellyer Field.
