WARRIORS REMAIN UNBEATEN IN ICCAC PLAY

Ottumwa, IA – Indian Hills Softball kept its perfect conference record intact on Wednesday as the Warriors swept visiting Iowa Western Community College at R.L. Hellyer Field. Indian Hills took game one 8-2 and the nightcap 14-6 in five innings.

The Warriors improve to 27-7 overall on the year and 8-0 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with the sweep of the Reivers. Indian Hills has now won three straight and 20 of its last 21 outings on the diamond. The Warriors swept the six-game season series with Iowa Western and are now 23-5 vs. the Reivers over the last five seasons.

As a team, the Warriors pounded out 26 hits in the afternoon twinbill with the Reivers, 12 of which went for extra bases. Sophomore Sydney Anderson (Elkhart, IA/North Polk) and freshman Claire Tipton (Unionville, MO/Putnam County) each collected five hits with seven going for extra bases, including one home run apiece.

The Warriors struck first in the opening game with three runs in the first inning thanks to a two-run double from Tipton. Anderson added an RBI base hit in the third before Destiny Lewis (Indianola, IA/Indianola) deposited a three-run home run over the center field wall in the fourth for a 7-1 advantage.

Sophomore Madie Anderson (Mt. Pleasant, IA/Winfield Mt. Union) went the distance in the circle to pick up her team-leading ninth win of the year.

Indian Hills totaled a season-high six doubles in the win, including a pair each from Tipton and fellow freshman Julia Kwakernaak (The Hague, Netherlands/Segbroek College)

The roles were reversed in game two as Iowa Western plated two runs in the first inning and four more in the third for a 6-1 lead. The Warrior offense came to life in the third inning with 11 runs to pull away from the Reivers. Tipton and Anderson both homered and produced run-scoring singles in the breakthrough frame for the Warriors. The Indian Hills bullpen shutdown the Reivers the rest of the way for the win.

The 11 runs in the third inning are the second most in a frame this year for the Warriors, trailing only the 13 the Warriors totaled vs. Ellsworth on April 6.

Tipton and Anderson both collected three hits in the nightcap while Tatum Aragon (Fort Collins, CO/Fort Collins) added a pair of hits, the freshman's 15th multi-hit performance of the year.

Freshman Thea Banning (Winterset, IA/Winterset) collected the win in the circle after tossing 2.2 scoreless relief innings. Banning moves to 6-2 on the year.

The Warriors' homestand continues with a doubleheader at R.L. Hellyer Field on Sunday, April 16 vs. North Iowa Area Community College. First pitch is set for 2:00 PM.
