DAUGHERITY'S HEROICS LEADS WARRIORS VS. BUTLER

Ottumwa, IA – Freshman Ella Daugherity (Sumner, MO/Brookfield) delivered a grand slam, her first-career home run, to power the Indian Hills Softball team to a doubleheader split with No. 11 Butler Community College (KS) at R.L. Hellyer Field on Sunday.

After splitting Saturday's non-league doubleheader with the Grizzlies, the Warriors rallied from an early deficit in Sunday's opener thanks to Daugherity's heroics. The freshman delivered a two-out, sixth inning grand slam to give Indian Hills a 7-5 advantage, a lead the Warriors maintained in the final frame to secure the win. The Grizzlies rebounded in the nightcap to take a 4-0 victory and split the four-game weekend series in Ottumwa.

Indian Hills moves to 27-19 overall on the year and finished the regular season with a 3-3 record against the nationally ranked Grizzlies after an early season matchup in El Dorado, KS. The Warriors have now earned five wins over top-20 nationally ranked opponents this year.

For the second consecutive day, Indian Hills opened up with an early deficit against Butler. The Grizzlies jumped out to a 4-0 lead before the Warriors got on the board with a run in the second. Sophomore Hannah Simpson (Fairfield, IA/Fairfield) delivered a two-run home run in the fourth to spark the Warriors and pull the home team within one, 4-3.

Butler tacked on an insurance run in the top half of the sixth to set the stage for Daugherity in the bottom half of the frame. With two outs and the bases loaded, Daugherity deposited a 1-2 pitch to deep centerfield for the freshman's biggest hit of her collegiate career.

Freshman Alivia Ruble (Lacona, IA/Southeast Warren) closed out the contest with a scoreless seventh inning to pick up the win after working three innings of relief. Ruble allowed just two hits and a walk to move to 3-2 on the year.

Sophomore Tatum Aragon (Fort Collins, CO/Fort Collins) closed out the opener against Butler 3-3 at the plate with two runs scored while Julia Kwakernaak (The Hauge, Netherlands/Segbroek College) added two runs scored in the win.

Despite a three-hit effort from freshman Peyton Raley (Arvada, CO/Arvada West), the Warrior offense was tamed in the nightcap. The pitching duo of Ashlynn Sheets (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) and Sara Reid (Central City, IA/Central City) combined to scatter just seven hits, but the Grizzlies plated four runs in the second inning to provide all the damage needed.

The Warriors return to action Monday afternoon for an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) doubleheader at Southeastern Community College. First pitch is set for 2:00 PM.
